We want to upload this video for you guys because there are a few topics circling around the Internet that we want to share our thoughts on: YouTube Comments Controversy, The #Momo Challenge, and Responsible Parenting. What have you heard?

Talk about the #YouTubeComments section has been a hot topic this week! Essentially, with all of the controversy surrounding the comment section (predatory comments on kids' channels, primarily), certain advertisers have been pulling their ads buys off of YouTube. This gets content creators worried, because ad revenue is a HUGE source of income for people on YouTube, just like us, as well as almost all of YouTube's revenue as a company.
We all have to come together (Advertisers, YouTube, Content Creators, and parents) to resolve issues such as this. All four entities share responsibility in this, and in the video we detail what each can do to make YouTube a better/safer place for our children. #Parenting is not easy, but it's the most important job we will ever have.
As content creators, we need to ALWAYS be mindful of the content that we are creating, not only of our personal intentions with our content, but also how that content COULD be perceived by others or abused by bad actors.
Lastly, as parents, we are the solid line of defense when it comes to child safety. The responsibility ultimately lies with us. If we are going to have kids online, we had better be a parent online.
Also know that the #MomoChallenge is completely fake, a sick prank designed be bad actors to intimidate and scare little kids. The photo is actually of an artistic sculpture in Asia, and I'm sure the sculptor would rather destroy the statue if he/she knew that photos of it were used for such awful purposes. Nothing real about the story AT ALL! Please spread this news!
As we discuss in the video, the internet is an AMAZING place, but it will never be perfect. We as parents have to constantly stay on top of what is going on with our kids (both on and off of the internet). We are responsible for establishing open communication with our kids, and creating rules that help them navigate the internet.
Overreacting by terminating social media accounts and/or kids' access Internet (though definitely monitored) would be like saying we will never ever go outside because a car could crash into us while walking on the sidewalk. The chances are just so slim, it could happen... but we'd miss so many amazing things in life if we don't venture out.
I hope this video gave you some clarity on this issue, let me know if you have any more questions in the comments below!
