United Nations - UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, has reiterated his Office's call on the Security Council to introduce limitation on its members' use of veto power, in order prevent crimes against humanity in conflict situations. Mr. Zeid made the call in the context of the dire human rights and humanitarian situation in the Syrian City of Aleppo, where in the past ten days, residents have endured the most intense attacks since the conflict began. Speaking to the press today, 4 October 2016, the UN human rights agency Spokesperson, Rupert Colville, said Mr. Zeid called for "strong leadership and bold actions" that would allow the Security Council to refer such situations to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and particularly to halt the unfolding tragedy in east Aleppo.
