Media Stakeout by Eteni Longondo, Democratic Republic of the Congo Minister of Health; Jean-Jacques Muyembe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo Ebola National Coordinator; Alex Azar, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services; and Tedros Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, on the Ebola preparedness and response efforts in the DRC and surrounding region.
This press event follows a closed meeting hosted by the DRC (in presence of HE Felix Tshilombo Tshisekedi, the DRC President), U.S., and WHO to engage regional Ministers on a commitment to enhance Ebola preparedness and readiness and improve the flow of information-sharing in the region.
Recognizing the gravity of the Ebola outbreak, the Ministers discuss topics including: preparedness activities; ongoing challenges and successes; opportunities for partnership to enhance preparedness; closing national and regional preparedness gaps; and other public health efforts needed to contain the current outbreak, avoid further spread, and prevent resurgence.
