Complete transcript:
Society needs more high-effort fathers and science proves just how powerful they are for children's brains, behavior, and future. Studies show that fathers who are actively involved and not just co-living have a positive impact on their children's social skills, behavior, and ability to learn new things. Studies show that high effort fathers are associated with fewer behavioral problems and lower rates of adult addiction. A 2023 study of 17,000 children of high effort fathers found that children whose fathers were highly involved from ages 1 to three showed significantly higher levels of school engagement and emotional well-being. They were also less likely to resist going to school at age eight.

A metaanalysis shows that fathers high in sensitivity, meaning that they're responsive and emotionally attuned have just as much impact on their child developing a secure attachment as mothers do. I'm going to repeat that again. Fathers who are emotionally responsive and attuned have just as much impact on a child being securely attached as mothers do. And what's even more interesting is that the way the father is involved matters, too. A study of highly involved fathers that used harsh physical discipline resulted in children with more behavioral problems than children of highly involved fathers that did not use harsh physical discipline. Society teaches us that a father's role is to provide. And that's important. But fathers do so much more. A dad's presence shapes a child's brain, attachment style, and the way they relate to others as adults just as profoundly as a mother's.
