Complete transcript: Why you feel exhausted
If you get a full night of sleep and still feel exhausted or no matter how much coffee you drink, you just don't feel awake. You're probably overstimulated. This is the first time in human history that we have a screen in the palm of our hands. Screens have only been around for the past 100 years. And now we can watch them all day long, constantly stimulating our nervous system. Visual silence is something we now need to help regulate our nervous systems. When we consciously give ourselves a break from visual stimulation, we give our brains a break from processing and our nervous systems a chance to actually get into a repair state. You can start to practice this by taking time every day to close your eyes and take in nothing. You don't have to meditate or get into a specific state. You can even go into what I call a twilight, where you're not necessarily napping, but you're laying down with your eyes closed and letting your body fully relax. Just 10 minutes of visual silence every day can help calm your nervous system. And after a few weeks of practice, you'll even notice that you feel less anxious, you're able to sleep better, and you might even feel less hypervigilant throughout.
