If you’re worried about how you can start a business with zero funds, here are some brands (and not only brands) that started with almost nothing:
- Whole Foods Market. John Mackey and Rene Lawson saved and borrowed money from friends and family to open their first store. After being kicked out from their apartment, the two lived in their first store.
- Airbnb. It started with Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia realizing that people needed places to stay and they started renting out their extra bed in their apartment. This is how the whole Airbnb started. Did they have money? No. They just had their passion and talent.
- Silicon Valley started from a garage. Hewlett and Packard started their company HP at their parents' garage.
- Google. Sergey Brin did not have billions of dollars to code the whole thing. Google was his research project at Stanford and then he realized the algorithm was actually worth something and he started working on that.
- LinguaTrip. Dmitry and I started our company with only $300 initial investment to just register a company.

There are some types of businesses that actually require raising money. When you're thinking about you business idea, you need to decide whether you need that money. For example, if you're building a bakery or a consultancy business, you don't really need initial investment. However, if you're building something similar to Supersonic Jet, then you definitely need an initial investment.

When designing your business plan, be frank with yourself about how much you’re spending and how much revenue you’ll likely bring in. Then, be realistic about how long it will take before you see a profit. Usually, it takes about at least six months before you start seeing any cash flowing in. Make it a goal to save at least six months’ worth of living expenses so you can devote yourself to your new business.

Want to be sure if your business idea is indeed unique? Run a test and find out. A pilot will give you the confidence you need to take your idea to the next level and mitigate risk. You can start on a small scale by giving away some freebies to a few people in your target audience group to see how they respond.
A small trial can give you some new insights to grow your business and identify challenges that you might have overlooked.

Think about having everything about your business online in case the next lockdown happens or people decide to stay at home. In this case, your business is still going to thrive. After this year, I realize how important it is to have operations online and have a personal brand.

The most important thing that I want you to remember is no matter how much you love the picture of yourself being an amazing entrepreneur travelling the world, you need to love your daily life, problems, communication with your clients because otherwise the whole thing wouldn't really survive if you don't enjoy the process.
