The policing mandate of MINUSMA in Mali

United Nations - Police Commissioner Issoufou YACOUBA explainst the policing mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). United Nations Police support the host-state police and gendarmerie in implementing their policing duties, based on the peace agreement that was signed in 2015. United Nations Police support the national police and gendarmerie with the reform and restructuring of the Malian Security Forces, the protection of civilians, as well as support the Malian authorities on election security.
United Nations Police is deployed in 12 peacekeeping operations, as well as 6 Special Political Missions to help restore confidence in host-State police and rule of law structures and serving to protect civilians, providing electoral and border security and management, limiting the effects of transnational organised crime, investigating and preventing cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
