United Nations - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), officially joined the UN family as a related agency, at the first-ever UN Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants today (19 September). The move aims to strengthen the UN's comprehensive global approach to migration- including dealing with an unprecedented level of forced displacement and migration, as well as wide-spread, growing anti-migrant sentiment and policies. During the ceremony to formally welcome IOM to the UN family, the Director-General of IOM, William Lacy Swing, likened the current migration crisis to being "in the middle of a perfect storm".
