Squats regulate your nervous system by activating your vagus nerve, putting you into a parasympathetic state. Hips and legs store a lot of trauma (sympathetic) energy. Squats release energy from your nervous system, helping you feel more relaxed. For people who dissociate or go into freeze, squats help with proprioception (or the ability to be in your body).
The movement of squats is rhythmic and soothing and mimics rocking, giving your body a primal, relaxed state.
