Learn how to make this super cute Smurf Village mushroom house cake, using your giant cupcake mold. Just in time for The Smurfs 2 movie due out in August, this gorgeous, relatively simple cake is perfect for every-smurf occasion!
Giant Cupcake Molds are widely available on Ebay, Amazon and lots of other online retailers - search for Big Top cupcake or Giant cupcake and you'll be able to find one. I recommend silicone as the metal ones tend to stick and you can't use them to make chocolate cupcake cases or cupcake pinatas. Don't pay more than about $10 for one - ebay has them really cheap and I usually pay about $7 (AU) for mine :)
Tools&Equipment:
Pizza cutter (or knife)
Cornflour (or icing sugar) for dusting your surface
Fondant roller or rolling pin
Paintbrush
Square cookie cutter (mine was a 1.5" or 4cm)
Butter knife
Sharp knife
Bread knife or serrated edge knife
Offset spatula (if you have one)
Toothpicks
Zip lock bag
Smurf figurines (mine were about $3 ea)
10" Cake Board, or cake plate (I iced mine - icing a board tutorial link is below)
Impression Mat (optional! - mine was a giraffe print but they also sell cobblestone designs)
Ingredients:
Giant cupcake (links to our how to bake a giant cupcake series below)
Buttercream frosting (I used blue, and a little green)
Fondant (White, red, dark brown, light brown)
Melted white chocolate or candy melts
