This Two Track episode features bassist, vocalist, and composer Devon Gates performing her original song “Come Here” and her arrangements of “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” by Blind Willie Johnson and “I Had a King” by Joni Mitchell.

Devon Gates is a bassist, vocalist, and composer enrolled in the Harvard/Berklee dual degree program, concentrating in social anthropology and jazz performance. She has studied with Terri Lyne Carrington, Linda May Han Oh, Danilo Pérez, Claire Chase, and esperanza spalding, and has performed with Social Science, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Alexa Tarantino, Immanuel Wilkins, Susie Ibarra, Kenny Werner, and Tia Fuller.

Two Track is a music video series designed for Berklee’s YouTube and social media channels that features artists in an intimate setting with only one microphone and continuous camera takes. Each recording session will revolve around a single theme (i.e., connection, love, dreams) that can be expressed by the artist either through their track selection or through a short storytelling segment that will be recorded as part of the performance. The videos in this series will premiere at specific dates and times, but if you miss the premiere, each video will be public on the channel in continuity.
