When I teach a knife skills class the first thing I do is ask everybody to pick up a knife and show me how they hold it. The majority of people hold it wrong. They hold it back here. They put their finger up here or their thumb up here. The best way to hold a knife is to hold it in what's called the "pinch grip." Your thumb goes on one side of the blade, your finger gets curled up on the other side of the blade, and your last three fingers wrap around. You're always going to have control and always know where this knife is.
